Sunday School

SUNDAY SCHOOL AT THE DORSET CHURCH LOCATED IN DORSET VERMONT.

Dear Dorset Church School Families,

Happy Easter and Happy Spring break!  Holy week, labyrinth building and walking and Easter were such a gift! New life is all around us and it is a gift to be off from school this week, enjoy God’s creation coming alive, resting, playing and rejuvenating after a long winter.  God is at work, everywhere we look!

If you are away on spring break, safe travels and don’t forget to bring back little rocks for “Love Rock” making.  Thank you to EVERYONE who helped to make our Lenten Food Drive labyrinth a HUGE success!  It was amazing to build the labyrinth, walk it and see all of the food that was donated to help make it happen, simply AMAZING, THANK YOU! See the downloaded video below of people walking the labyrinth on Easter Sunday.

This Sunday we still need an acolyte and beadle, if you are available and interested, please RSVP ASAP.  During church school we will be reviewing Holy Week and Easter and learning about the sixth Beatitude, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.”  Laura Grapshi and Emily Stewart will be serving in our nursery.  Following worship we are also invited to join the Green Team and go with Pastor Gray and bless the new solar panels that have been installed on Route 30 and will be providing the electricity at our church, which is really cool.  I hope that you and your family can join us.

Enjoy your week and see you soon!

Thoughts and prayers,

Gretchen Lima

P.S.  We set up for the Rummage Sale this Sunday, yikes!  Please sign up during coffee hour to work during the week and Saturday and be collecting items to donate (great recycling) and see the announcement below about the Rummage Sale Concession Stand, which is hosted by the Christian Education Committee.  We need everyone to help!

12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Rummage Sale  and Concession Stand- Saturday April 29 – The Rummage Sale is a HUGE event at our church and it has a rippling effect on the community and on the environment.  It is a great way to recycle items we no longer need and get treasured and items we have been hoping for.  You can sign up in the church Vestry to volunteer for this amazing event, we NEED EVERYONE TO PITCH IT!  The Christian Ed. committee is responsible for hosting the concession stand.  This is our only fundraiser and it is how we raise money for special Christian Ed. projects and funds to donate to mission.  We need people to help work at the stand AND we need donations of baked goods, such as pies, cookies, scones, cakes, brownies as well as crock pots of soup, chili and mac a cheese.  We also need:  3 quarts of creamer, 84 slices of American cheese, 7 lbs. of bacon, 1 pound of butter, 2-3 dozen fresh donuts.  The more we have donated the more money we raise.  Please email Gretchen at gretchenlima@aol.com and let her know how you can help out.

Acolyte and beadle Schedule- Our children take a special part in starting our worship service each week by serving as an acolyte (bringing in the light of Christ and helping to lead the Lords Prayer) and the beadle (carrying in the Bible and ringing the bell).  In the past this has been a role that has been reserved for children, but numerous youth and adults have shared interest in serving in this role, so we are opening it up to others.  It would be wonderful to have a parent and child serve, grandparent and child, special friend and child, etc.  It is a gift to share the light of Christ and word of God and we hope you will consider serving in the near future.  Also, please let me know if your child would rather not be scheduled in the monthly rotation, which I will be putting together in the next couple of weeks.

Nursery Care- Babies and infants are always and encouraged and welcome in our worship services, but we are also committed to providing nursery care during worship if parents prefer.  If you would be willing to pray for, love, nurture and rock a baby or toddler, please contact Heather McGuire who coordinates our nursery.  (239)872-7863, mcguirefamily97@gmail.com,   We are blessed to have Emily Stewart in our nursery once a week as well, so you will not be alone.  We follow the Safe Sanctuary guidelines recommended by our denomination and we always have 2 adults with children at all times.

Children’s events and activities- The church school teachers are interested in being invited to a special event, game, concert, etc. that your child is in.  If your child wants to invite us  and we can make it, we would love to go.  We would also love to be invited to your house to meet your pets.

LOVE ROCKS- Love Rocks have become a special part of church school.  Every time someone news comes to church school they receive one Love Rock to keep, to remind them that God loves them and their church family loves them, they also receive another love rock to give to someone who might need a bit of love or they can leave it some where for someone to find.  We are always in need of more rocks, so if you are traveling on vacation or have a special place to get rocks, we would love for you to add to our supply.  We now have received rocks from Maine, Austria and the Holy Land, which is truly amazing.  To read about the story behind the “Love Rocks” go to: love-Rocks.org it is a very heart breaking story, but very inspiring to see how we can turn our grief into something amazing.

Usher, Host coffee hour, Donate flowers, etc. - Our church is always in need of people to volunteer and it would be great for you and your children to do it as a family.  There are signup sheets down in the Vestry, take some time on Sunday to check them out.  Coffee hour is a hit with the adults, but the children love it too and they always need help.
