Worship and Music

After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music. Aldous Huxley

The Dorset Church music program is a strongly supported and integral part of our unique and diverse worship services.  We are a joyful, singing congregation whose friendship, cooperation, and camaraderie are strengthened through music. Artistic expression of varied genres is always welcome here, as our Church offers a strong link with the wider community.

Our spirited SATB choir is active from September through mid June.  We enthusiastically participate each Sunday with anthem and offertory singing.  Our rehearsal times are Thursday nights from 7-8 and Sunday mornings from 9-10.  Sometimes the women’s or men’s choirs sing for gathering music, and at other times soloists or small ensembles participate.  The music we sing is closely aligned with the themes of the morning worship services and our expansive library includes classical through contemporary music.

Once each year our choir sings in concert or works together to produce a musically oriented fund-raiser.  In the fall of 2010 the choir sponsored a “Dorset Idol” show.  It was complete with a three course dinner, Karaoke, and judges! Often during the Christmas season the choir entertains by singing carols at local historical sites.
